Simple instructions for growing microgreens with YE!greens by TORAF

1. Preparation
   • Place the container in a bright spot, but not in direct sunlight.
   • Soak the mats in water for 15 minutes.
   • Place them on the top tray with grooves, spread the seeds evenly, and cover with the lid.
2. Watering
   • Once a day, pour about 50 ml (¼ cup) of water around the mats.
   • Be careful not to wash away the seeds. After watering, cover again with the lid.
3. Growth
   • Check the water level daily and pour off excess water from the bottom tray.
   • When the plant leaves touch the lid – remove it.
4. Harvest
   • After 5–10 days, cut the microgreens and enjoy fresh, vitamin-rich plants.

How to tell whether it’s mold or roots?

During germination, you may notice a delicate, white, fluffy coating around the seeds and the base of the seedlings. Examine it closely. If the hairs are thin, cling to the seeds and the growing medium, and do not lift into the air when watering, it’s a sign that everything is fine.

These are root hairs (micro-roots) – a completely natural phenomenon that indicates healthy, proper germination.

Mold, on the other hand, is usually grayish, more compact, and easily becomes airborne when touched or watered.

The most common problems when growing microgreens

Even when growing microgreens, small challenges can arise, such as excess moisture, too little light, or uneven germination. This is natural and happens even to experienced gardeners. Below you’ll find a few of the most common problems that may occur when growing microgreens, along with tips on how to prevent them so your plants grow healthy and strong.

Mold and fungi – A white, fluffy coating mistaken for roots. Usually caused by excessive moisture and poor ventilation. Reduce watering (water from below/mist), ensure access to fresh air (ventilate!), and the YE!GREEN kit, thanks to its open wooden construction, minimizes this risk.

Leggy seedlings – Plants are pale, thin, and long, and the leaves are small. This means too little light. Place the growing kit in a brighter spot in the house. During periods of poor weather (especially in winter), it’s worth considering simple grow lights for supplemental lighting.

Uneven germination – Not all seeds have sprouted; the mats are “empty.” This is caused by dry seeds or uneven watering. Before sowing, the seeds should be moistened, and in the case of YE!GREEN make sure the entire hemp growing medium is thoroughly soaked.
