An undemanding, long-flowering melliferous plant. Flowers single or double with green, fringed bracts. Used for edging, flower beds in naturalistic gardens. Decorative fruits and flowers are suitable for drying. Nigella seeds have a sharp, spicy taste and, as a seasoning, are added to cheeses, bread, and fatty meats. They have choleretic, diuretic, carminative, antibacterial, analgesic, anthelmintic, anti-inflammatory, and fungicidal effects. The leaves can be used as a seasoning – they contain more vitamin C than parsley leaves. It grows well in any garden soil. Sow to a depth of 1 cm directly into the ground IV–V.
