Soap nuts with bag
Description soap nuts
These nuts come from India and Nepal as fruits of the soapberry tree Sapindus Mukorossi. The pulp of the large soap nut contains about 15% saponins, which have a cleansing property and act as a kind of soap when in contact with water.
A tip from us:
Lost your cotton bag? Use an old white sock, fill it with soap nuts, and close it with a twine or knot. You can use this similarly to the cotton bag. Moreover, who doesn't have an old sock at home ;-) ?
Application soap nuts
Soap nuts can be used for different purposes: as a cleaning agent, bath liquid, shampoo, or detergent. Depending on the application, the usage method differs.
- in a washing machine
Put approximately 5 to 6 soap nut shells in a cotton wash bag, tie the bag tightly and place it along with the laundry in the washing machine. Nuts are suitable for all types of laundry at temperatures from 30 - 90 °C. Natural saponins are safe for colored laundry and even for cooking wash. It is recommended to add 1.5 tablespoons of soda to white laundry for extra freshness. The nuts can remain in the machine until the end of the cycle. During rinsing in cold water, some saponin is released that helps with washing.
- in a dishwasher
Place 3-4 soap nut shells in the dishwasher compartment and select a program with high temperature.
For powdered soap nuts, it is advised to sprinkle 2 teaspoons of powder in the detergent tablet compartment and choose a high-temperature program.
- hand washing
First prepare your own liquid detergent by pouring boiling water over 5 to 6 nut shells and cooking them on low heat for about 1 minute. After cooling down, boil again and let sit overnight. When using powdered soap nuts, dissolve 1 teaspoon powder in a glass of hot water and let cool down. You can add citric acid or essential oil for a fresh scent.
- as a cleaning agent for cleaning
Pour 0.5 liters of boiling water over 25 g of soap nuts and let simmer for 10-15 minutes. Then let cool down, bring to boil again and filter afterward. You can add essential oil for a pleasant fragrance. When using powdered nuts, dissolve 2 tablespoons of powder in 0.5 liters of boiling water, stir well and leave to use.
- as jewelry cleaner
Pour 0.5 l boiling water over 3-4 soap nut shells and leave overnight. Soak jewelry in the solution, dry and polish with a soft cloth.
With powdered nuts you can make your own cleaning paste by mixing equal amounts of powder and water.
- Face and body scrub
Grind the shells into fine powder and mix with dried citrus fruit peel powder. Add olive oil until a creamy texture is formed. Avoid contact with eyes.
Mix three tablespoons of powder with warm water to form a creamy consistency for body scrub, add sugar and olive oil for extra care.
- for garden use
By adding soap nut shells to boiling water and letting them simmer briefly you make a solution to spray your garden with.
