Magnesium chloride (MgCl2·6H2O) is a crystalline magnesium salt. It is a highly hygroscopic substance (it deliquesces when the relative air humidity exceeds 30%) that dissolves very well in water without affecting its smell. FiVio magnesium chloride has a purity level of at least 99% and is ideal for relaxing baths, massages and other cosmetic applications. In industry, it is designated as E511. Interestingly, magnesium chloride is often used in the production of tofu – it is added to soy milk to make this popular ingredient.

Recommended uses for magnesium chloride

It is worth noting that magnesium can be supplemented not only orally. External application is just as effective a method of supplementation. Here are a few examples of how to provide your body with a dose of this compound.

Relaxing bath: fill the bath with warm water and add 1–2 cups (approximately 125–300 grams) of magnesium chloride. Soak in the bath for about 30 minutes. When taking a magnesium chloride bath, it is recommended not to use other cosmetics, such as bubble bath. Sensitive skin may experience a slight burning or tingling sensation, which passes quickly, so it is always a good idea to start with a smaller amount of magnesium chloride to see how your body reacts.

Foot bath: dissolve 1 cup (approximately 125–150 grams) of magnesium chloride in 3–4 litres of warm water. Soak your feet for 20–30 minutes, then rinse them with clean water. This bath helps relax tired feet and moisturises the skin.

Magnesium oil: to make an oil-free oil with a soft, slightly oily consistency, simply dissolve magnesium chloride in water (preferably distilled). The amount of magnesium chloride used depends on the consistency you want to achieve. If you don't yet have a point of reference, it is worth using the standard proportions – one cup of magnesium chloride to half a cup of water. Once prepared, pour the oil into a bottle. It is ideal for rubbing onto your legs and arms to relieve cramps, or for a relaxing massage. 

Magnesium cream: magnesium chloride can be added to a rich cream to enrich it with this element. It may also be a good idea to add a little magnesium chloride to a warming gel if you use it after a workout on tired muscles.
