For many years, cashews have been very popular among nutritionists and experts in healthy eating. All this not only because of their unique taste, but also a large amount of valuable vitamins and minerals. It turns out that introducing these nuts into a healthy diet, in combination with regular physical activity, can contribute to reducing the risk of type II diabetes in the future. In addition, cashews are widely used in our kitchen and can form the basis of numerous desserts and even sandwich spreads.
The use of cashew nuts
Cashews are widely used not only in vegan or vegetarian cuisine. We can eat them both in the form of salty, roasted, and in chocolate. They are characterized by a delicate, slightly sweet taste. Therefore, we can easily use them both when preparing sweet desserts (for example, delicious cereal cookies or the popular cashew), as well as savory dishes (for example, delicious sandwich spreads or for the production of vegan cheese). It is also worth knowing that cashews are an excellent addition to salads full of vegetables or nutritious porridge. It is worth introducing them to your diet both because of their unique taste and the set of valuable nutrients they contain.
Caloric content of cashews
100 grams of cashews contain a lot, over 600 calories, unfortunately cashews are also caloric. However, they have much more protein than other nuts, its content in 100 grams of the product reaches up to 19 grams. Cashews also contain EFAs, and the fat value in 100 grams is 45 grams. For this reason, cashew nuts have become a good product for vegans, providing a large pool of protein and vegetable fat to the vegan diet. They are used in various vegan dishes, ranging from plant drinks, through various types of sandwich pastes, to the popular cashews.
Cashew nuts are the fruit of the Western cashew, which grows naturally in South America. Nevertheless, these trees are also widely cultivated in tropical countries. India, Vietnam and Cote d'Ivoire are recognized as the world's largest producers of cashew nuts. It is also worth knowing that we have learned about the health properties of the Western cashew fruit relatively recently (about 100 years ago). The shape of cashews may remind us of a kidney. They are characterized by a soft, creamy color and a delicate buttery flavor. Before they reach our tables, these delicacies go a long way. First, they are removed manually from the characteristic claw-shaped shells, and then they are roasted and cooked.
Contraindications for eating cashew nuts
People struggling with food allergies to other types of nuts should be especially careful when consuming these nuts. Moreover, cashew nuts in excessive amounts cannot be consumed by patients who experience significant disorders in the digestive system.
