How to grow paulownia

You don’t need complicated growing experience. Gently press the seeds into the soil (not deep), because they germinate in light. Then water regularly so the soil stays slightly moist. With a little patience, you’ll enjoy fresh green new life after just a few weeks.

• Water: regularly, without making the soil soaking wet

Planting out, overwintering and care

Is your seedling strong enough? Then you can plant the tree out from early spring through autumn, together with the biodegradable cup. During the first winter, it’s best to keep the young plant sheltered, for example under a canopy or in a cool, bright space. The mature Paulownia tomentosa can tolerate temperatures down to about -22°C.

Paulownia is known for its fast growth (under good conditions up to 2–3 meters per year) and forms a broad, almost spherical crown. With its large leaves and striking bloom (July–August), it’s a tree that adds character to your garden in every season.
