A monoecious coniferous tree from the pine family, originating from the Mediterranean region. When planted in a pot, it is ideally suited as a Bonsai form. Flexible shoots make it possible to give the plant the desired shape, and it can be pruned all year round. It needs acidic, dry, light soil and a sunny position. In summer, the pot can be placed outdoors. Before sowing, soak the seeds for 2 days in warm water; sow from February to October; they germinate after 3–4 weeks.
