Almond flakes
Almond flakes are a well-known ingredient in the kitchen. They are characterized by an excellent taste that perfectly emphasizes the character of numerous pastries, salads, and meat dishes. This product also has a rich content of nutrients, vitamins, and minerals.
Where do they come from and what characterizes almond flakes?
Almond flakes are made from peeled almonds that are then sliced into narrow almond slivers. Although they are often called nuts, almonds are actually the seeds of the almond fruit. This plant belongs to the perennial species and is part of the rose family. In natural conditions, it occurs in Asia Minor and Central Asia. Therefore, numerous crops can be found in Israel, Jordan, Turkey, and Uzbekistan. Due to the high interest in almond seeds, the plant was also cultivated in North Africa, West Asia, and in some European countries such as Portugal, France, Croatia, and Italy. Nowadays, we can distinguish two types of almonds:
Sweet almonds - more commonly cultivated, from which tasty almond slivers are made. They are characterized by a delicate taste and are widely used in the food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical industries;
Bitter almonds - less frequently cultivated due to their amygdalin content. Among other things, they are used in the production of perfumes and varnishes, as well as cosmetics intended for body care.
Flakes obtained from almonds contain nutrients. They are especially a good source of monounsaturated fatty acids. Additionally, they can provide our body with valuable vitamins (such as vitamin A, B vitamins, vitamin E) and essential minerals (including potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, iron, zinc, and sodium). Interestingly, almond slivers also contain fibers and large amounts of proteins.
Almond flakes are characterized by a delicate cream color and a unique taste and aroma. They are flat and about 1 cm long. It's worth noting that this product undergoes blanching processes before reaching our tables, which contributes to highlighting its flavor and unusual fragrance.
Usefulness of almond slivers
Almond slivers can be used versatilely in various dishes and baking recipes. It is important to know that some people may have allergic reactions to almond products. Therefore, start carefully with small amounts.
