Bee pollen is a natural product. It can be a very valuable addition to your diet, as it contains many vitamins, minerals and other compounds. It is also used to make many skincare products.

Using bee pollen as a supplement

If you want to make the most of the properties of bee pollen, it is recommended to consume it 3 times a day, half an hour before a meal. Mix a tablespoon (approx. 8 g) of bee pollen with a glass of water or milk and drink it.

You can also add flower pollen to meals if you prefer this way of consuming it. For example, you can add it to yogurt or mix it with honey. You can also crush it with a mortar and pestle to make a fine powder that you can sprinkle over a dish.

The recommended daily intake of bee pollen for an adult is 20–40 grams. For children (over 3 years of age), the daily intake should not exceed 10 grams.

Note: bee pollen is a potent allergen and may cause allergic reactions. We recommend starting with a very small test dose and checking whether you are allergic to pollen.

The variety of bee pollen’s taste and smell

Bee pollen is a varied product. Its taste, color and smell depend on the place and time when the bees collected it (that is, on the types of plants in bloom at the time). Therefore, its taste can be very different — sometimes it will be sweeter, sometimes more bitter, and less often slightly sour. It all depends on which flowers the pollen was collected from. However, it is always worth paying attention to its smell and appearance. If there are visible signs of fungal growth (mold) and the smell is very unpleasant and characteristic of a spoiled product, you should no longer consume that pollen. That is why it is worth ensuring that it is stored properly — keep it in a dry place and in a sealed container. Never scoop it out with a wet spoon!

Nutritional value of bee pollen

Bee pollen varies considerably, but it is generally considered a low-calorie product. On average, it contains 270 kcal per 100 g, which means that following the recommended dose provides around 90 kcal a day. Bee pollen consists largely of protein, with a content of around 23 g per 100 g of product. Therefore, there are no contraindications to using it while dieting; in fact, it can provide the body with many valuable nutrients.
