Would you also like to learn how to make your own jam? In this blog post, I’ll tell you how!
What do you need?
-Fruit of your choice
-Sugar or a sugar substitute (erythritol)
-Pectin
-Water
-Empty jars with lids
-A large pan
Time: 45 min
Step 1 – cleaning the jars
First, you need to sterilize the jars you want to use for the jam. This prevents bacteria from getting into your fresh jam. Put the jars in a large pan and add enough water to cover them completely. Bring the water to a boil and let the jars boil for 15 min. After 15 minutes, take the jars out of the pan and leave them upside down to dry on a clean tea towel.

Step 2 – choosing the fruit
Get your chosen fruit and rinse it. In summer, you can buy delicious fresh seasonal fruit at the market. This can be more difficult during the other months. It may be useful to add some dried fruit to your jam. To do this, soak your dried fruit in water before adding it to the jam. That way, you can enjoy delicious homemade fresh jam even during the winter months.

Step 3 – preparing the fruit
Drain the clean fruit. Please note: put the pan on your scales before turning them on. This prevents the weight of the pan from being included. Add the fruit and weigh it so you can add the right amount of pectin, water and sugar. Pour about a quarter of a glass of water into a glass and add the pectin. For 1 kg of fruit, use 15 grams of pectin. Stir the water and pectin together well. Add the mixture while the fruit is cooking. Let the jam simmer gently and stir it well.

Step 4 – adding sugar or a sugar substitute
Once the pectin has dissolved, add sugar or a sugar substitute to taste. Keep in mind that the more sugar you add, the less healthy the jam will be. Keep tasting and add small amounts for the best result. For 1 kg of fruit, I used 3 tablespoons of erythritol (a sugar substitute).

Step 5 – preserving the jam
Once the sugar or sugar substitute has dissolved, skim the foam off the jam and pour it into the jars. After filling the jars, turn them upside down so they seal under vacuum and you can enjoy your jam for longer.

And there you have it: your delicious fruit jam! Of course, you can use it as a spread on your sandwich. It’s also delicious on freshly baked cake or as a filling in a homemade cake.
It also makes a lovely gift!
Enjoy your meal :)
